Katie Birenboim Upcoming Events Bio

Katie Birenboim is an actress, singer, and writer.  A native New Yorker, Katie got the theatre bug early: at three years old, she cried during the intermission of Peter Pan, concerned that the performance had ended.  Not much has changed since then.  In high school, Katie attended Manhattan School of Music’s precollege vocal program and spent her summers training at Interlochen Arts Camp and the University of Michigan.

As an undergraduate at Princeton, Katie performed in and directed musicals, plays, and sketch comedy shows. During the summers she performed regionally with College Light Opera Company and Berkshire Theatre Group.  Shortly after graduating with honors, Katie made her professional NYC debut starring in the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway revival of Fiorello!.

Beyond performance, Katie is deeply committed to exploring all the ways that great theatre is made.  She has experience with directing, producing, dramaturgy, and writing.  She has been an assistant to Kate Maguire, Artistic Director/CEO of Berkshire Theatre Group, and to Tony Award-winning director John Rando.

Katie’s English thesis at Princeton, focusing on Jane Austen, won the Thomas H. Maren award, the highest honor awarded to a senior in the English department for independent work.  Her theatre thesis, which synthesized Annie Get Your Gun and Gypsy into one musical piece highlighting the role of women in Golden Age musical theatre, was honored by the theatre department as “outstanding” independent work.  Her one-act play was performed in New York in May 2015 as part of a performance piece entitled Earshot, and she is a founding member of Grind Arts Company, along with Broadway vets Graham Phillips and Eamon Foley.  Katie’s greatest dream is to perform as the first female Tevye.

excerpt from luv u lmao
by Katie Birenboim

Nassau Weekly

"The “earnest” guy is pretty easy for me to spot nowadays. He is the guy who loves school without exception and without doubt. He doesn’t have a Twitter account. He probably has given girls flowers or written one a love song. He responds to your joking text message with just “lol”—no joke of his own to contribute. It’s not that he’s not funny per se—it’s that he reserves sarcasm and irony for very specific situations, not as a first instinct. He approaches life sincerely and authentically and you know how he feels because he says it. He’s a good guy."
