Katie Birenboim

About
Katie is a New York City-based actor, director, writer, commentator, and theatre administrator. A native New Yorker, Katie got the theatre bug early: at three years old, she cried during the intermission for a production of Peter Pan, concerned that the performance had ended. Clearly, not much has changed. After graduating cum laude from Princeton University, where she majored in English, minored in Theatre, and produced theses on both Jane Austen and Irving Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun, Katie began acting and directing professionally, making her Off-Broadway debut in the critically acclaimed revival of Fiorello!.
She’s since worked at theaters like Berkshire Theatre Group (many times over), Barrington Stage Company, City Center Encores!, Ancram Opera House, the Mint Theater Company, Goodspeed Opera House, and assisted directors like John Rando, Christian Borle, and Jenn Thompson. In 2020, Katie started a theatre interview show, first with the help of Berkshire Theatre Group, and then relaunched it on her own as “Call Time with Katie Birenboim,” now available on Apple, Spotify, or anywhere you enjoy podcasts. She also began writing feature pieces for the theatrical website Broadway’s Best Shows, a subsidiary of Jeffrey Richards Associates, and for Arts Journal, a “digest of some of the best arts and cultural journalism in the English-speaking world.”
In addition to all of this, Katie graduated from NYU’s Master’s in Performing Arts Administration program, where she received the “Distinguished Graduate” award for outstanding academic performance and service. In July 2023, she directed a sold-out, “elevated concert version” of The Secret Garden at Berkshire Theatre Group’s Colonial, she assistant directed the most recent, Broadway-aimed workshop of Anne of Green Gables, and she’s the assistant director of the National Tour of Annie. In March 2024, she co-produced Eamon Foley’s dance-forward reimagining of Sunday in the Park with George
